Day 37 - Elephant Trekking

by Joe Butch on February 18, 2009

Amber and I went elephant trekking today. We picked a 30 minute Elephant Trekking Tour and got the price down from 800 baht to 500 baht per person including transportation. We actually rode the elephant for one hour. The elephant trekking was fun but an entire hour was excessive and left us sore.

In the Elephant Trekking area they had a leashed monkey that was trained  would go into your pockets looking for anything. First time I saw him he tried he grabbed a pink envelope and bite a piece off and when i tried to stop him he wanted to bite me. The second time he went into my almost empty pocket he decided to take the lens cape for my camera and try chewing on it. When he realized it wasn’t food he threw it on the floor - boy was I nervous!

2008 Accomplishments

#3 Solved A Rubick’s Cube

[  ] Cheated
[x] I Can Do Some Sequences Blindfolded

The easiest way to start solving the Rubick’s cube is to start memorizing solutions to the most common patterns in the cube. My record is 2 minutes and 13 seconds.

#2 Backpacked Thailand

Dropped my new camera at the time into the Andaman Sea but the 3 weeks backpacking by myself was a fun experience. I visited Bangkok, Phuket, and Krabi.

[x] Wild Monkeys Drinking From 2-Liter Coca Cola Bottles
[  ] Ladyboys
[x] Cave Spelunking
[x] Real Rock Climbing

#1 Jumped Out Of a Plane

What I do regret about that day is I didn’t put up the extra $80 for a skydiving video and photos. I would definitely do it again but not by myself - it’s to scary to die alone.

At one point the instructors said they were going to ground me if I didn’t stop acting like an idiot.

[x] Kept Asking If I Could Have A Superman Cape

I was the last person to jump out of the plane and for a split second a moment of fear takes over and I thought to myself, “maybe this isn’t such a great idea” but I knew I couldn’t back out now. The worst part is when you pull the parachute the restraints absolutely kill your legs.
